Where Things Stand
Happy Thursday, everyone. The Pirates dropped another game to the Phillies last night. They’ll get a chance to avoid being swept later this evening. Last night’s game wasn’t very good. They blew a 5-0 lead against a Phillies lineup that saw the majority of their star power being rested. Oviedo gave up six runs in five innings of work. The Phillies batting order was so bad that it included Rodolfo Castro and at least a couple of people that I had never heard of before. Connor Joe had a great night at the plate going four for five. Ke’Bryan Hayes and Jared Triolo also had multi-hit games. I’ll let Tyler and Neil break down all of the intricate details for you.
Up Next
The final game of the series will be tonight at 6:05 P.M. EDT. The Pirates will be facing Zack Wheeler and looking to avoid being swept for the first time since the Giants series in mid-July. The Pirates pitcher has yet to be announced. I know that’s surprising. If I were to take a guess I would say that this will be a bullpen game. Which doesn’t inspire much confidence. I don’t expect the Phillies to sit most of their starters again, but they may try to get a couple of guys another day of rest. We’ll see how that goes. It would be really nice to close out the season without getting swept, but I’m not all that confident in that happening. What do you guys think? Can they avoid the sweep? Let me know in the comments.
Alright. That wraps us up for today. We’ll be back here again tomorrow with the final regular season newsletter of the 2023 season and we’ll take a look at the final series of the year against the Marlins. As always, #LetsGoBucs!
